After three straight losses on the trot, Mid Canterbury Netball’s premier one competition’s defending champions Celtic A were pretty desperate to turn things around.

And on Thursday night they did just that, convincingly beating Methven A 37-16 thanks to a commanding second half performance.

The first-half was a tight tussle, but Celtic A well and truly put the foot down in the third quarter and didn’t look back, limiting Methven A to just six second-half goals on their way to the win.

Celtic had led 8-4 at the end of the first quarter, but Methven A came back at them in the second half to trail just 12-10 at the mid-way point.

But from there it was all one-way traffic.

It was a similar story on the next court, where little separated Ashburton College A and Mt Somers in the first quarter of their game.

The two sides went to the first break all tied up at 6-all, before College A made a break in the second to lead 14-9 at half time, and from there they just kept on building to finish with a 30-19 win.

In the night’s other premier one game, United A continued to shape up as the team to beat, with a 34-27 win over Hampstead A, the team that last week really upset the apple cart by handing Celtic that third loss on the trot.

United A’s win meant that they and College A were top-of-the-table two games into the season’s third and final championship round.

In premier two action on Thursday night, Southern A were too good for Celtic C, winning 38-22, while Celtic B also picked up a big win, 45-21 over Hampstead B.

In the night’s other game Methven B beat Ashburton College B 26-21.
