Ashburton Creative Fibre members including Pam Whiteford (left) and Sue Allen are busy making flowers from all sorts of materials as they prepare for the group’s biennial open day.

Members are constructing blooms from paper, flax, wool, felt and fabric, which they will arrange in the Tinwald War Memorial Hall in preparation for the August 12 event.

Creative Fibre is a nationwide organisation, and the Ashburton group is expecting members from Otago to Amberley will be participating in the open day, which has the theme Enchanted Garden.

Internationally renowned costume and fabric artist Jenny Gillies will deliver a talk on the day, and there will be a fashion accessory competition.

The public is welcome to attend, and there is a $5 admission which includes refreshments.

There will be no resting after the event, as members will then be preparing for the 50th anniversary of the group next year.

Part of celebrations will be staging an exhibition at the Ashburton Art Gallery.
