Netball finals ahead

Netball finals ahead

It's just one step to the summit for Mt Somers Victory Lime A.

They have secured their spot in the Mid Canterbury Netball’s ACL Premier 1 after winning their semi against College A last week.

Mt Somers had a consistent hold over College, holding three points in the first quarter, five at half time and 11 in the third quarter.

That gap widened to 12 and left Mt Somers with a winning score of 55 to College’s 43.

They’re up against Celtic Auric Electrical A, who showed their skill at playing the long game when they beat Hampstead A 42-39.

Hampstead had the initial lead, the score in their favour 22-18 at half time, but Celtic pushed through to victory in the third and fourth quarters.

By quarter three they had the lead with 32-29.

Celtic goal keeper Lela Nawai reclaimed a number of game-defining shots that kept her team in the lead until the buzzer.

ACL Premier 2’s final will be between Brady’s Painting Allenton A and Rakaia ProShear, both strong performers at the semis.

Allenton A earned their spot with a 55-27 win over Hampstead Ray White B, while Rakaia ended Methven EuroAgri’s strong run towards the finals with a 36-25 win.

ACL Premier 3 saw Rakaia Seed Cleaning and United KFC battle to a two-point difference, with Rakaia winning just barely at 30-28.

They’ll play College Senior Reserve in the Prem 3 final after their 34-20 win over Hampstead Ray White U18 Development.

The fifth placing for the grades was decided on Thursday night.

Methven Wareings secured it in Prem 1, Southern Canterbury Chiropractic in Prem 2, and Methven Shearmac in ACL Premier 3.

The Prem 2 and 3 playoffs take place on Wednesday at 6.30pm, and the battle for the McGee Trophy the next day at 7.15pm.
