Banding together to tackle challenges
From providing advice to sole operators to helping people drum up new business, The Networkers group is working hard to connect and upskill its members.
The group is dedicated to fostering business connections around New Zealand and runs weekly meetings in Ashburton to support business owners.
“I’m passionate about creating a community of amazing people who care for each other, and the group in Ashburton is amazingly supportive,” founder Maria Gold said.
For Vicki Hawkes, the facilitator and franchise owner for Mid-South Canterbury, this is the key to beating economic uncertainties.
“Some people see businesses shutting and panic, but there are also new businesses opening and growing,” she said.
Ashburton business owner Rebecca Hulse manages an events venue, and said despite the challenges of visibility in a small town, her participation in the group has led to collaborations, including hosting functions for fellow members.
“The Networkers has been great for meeting new people and developing consistent relationships.”
Cleaning company owner Jan Maree highlighted opportunities for growth and expansion within the group.
“I have just joined about three months ago. It’s a good range of people, and I can see the positivity in the sense that you can actually help other businesses through referrals and collaborations.”
Business growth advisor Jason MacRae was the guest speaker for the latest meeting, held last week at Joe’s Garage.
“The opportunity to come along and talk to The Networkers group here in Mid Canterbury today is a great opportunity for us to connect with other businesses, provide support at the right time, [and] a way of working collaboratively across the wider business ecosystem in Mid Canterbury.”
MacRae also discussed the Regional Business Partner Programme, which provides free advice and support to grow businesses locally.
