Locals claim building awards

Mid Canterbury builders have taken out a slew of prizes at this year's Canterbury Master Builders House of the Year awards.

Stu Bell Construction claimed two of the top awards at the recent ceremony - New Home $1 million - $1.5 million category and a gold award, for a home in Huntington, Ashburton, and the Smart Home Award and a gold award, for a home in Methven.

Of the Huntington home, the judges noted it immediately caught their eye with its variety of cladding materials, degree of difficulty, attention to detail, and quality workmanship.

And the Methven home impressed with its system being "seamlessly integrated with the building, resulting in an elegant and unobtrusive smart home".

"The comprehensive installation controls security, access, climate, and entertainment. However, it is the thoughtful approach to passive climate control that sets this project apart."

Also featuring in the gold awards was Milestone Homes Mid Canterbury for a house in Hampstead.

And Mid Canterbury properties also featured in the silver awards.

Jennian Homes Canterbury claimed two, for properties at Lake Hood and Elgin, and Milestone Homes Mid Canterbury took out an award for a property at Elgin.
