Ewe've got to be kidding me...

Ewe've got to be kidding me...
The sheep walking down the alleyway, past the Somerset Grocer.

It wasn’t your usual sight in Ashburton’s CBD.

Unfazed by yesterday’s slight drizzle and morning cold, a sheep - yes, a sheep - was spotted making its way through town, but staying well clear of kebab shops.

McLeod Real Estate valuer Laura George and her colleagues spotted the ewe-nique sight at about 9.30.

"We saw it come through the Havelock Street and East Street lights,’’ George said.

"Trotting down the road, it came across our office and then went down the alleyway.”

She said it passed the Somerset Grocer before going back up along East Street.

"A few of our staff went out and tried to see if we could get it in the alley, but it was too quick.

"It sounds like it's been everywhere.”

A picture of the sheep commented under the Mcleod's Facebook post, supposedly behind Smith's City around 8am.

And Ashburton Police were in on the shear madness, giving chase to the woolly rebel.

"They came down the alleyway just after we’d been out wandering.”

The real estate company posted a snap of the sheep to their Facebook page, with followers sharing sightings all over town, including as far as Allenton.

Somerset Grocer barista Kate Hunter saw it pass by the cafe’s window.

"It was a big sheep, quite large, and it just raced down the alleyway, turned on to the main road and disappeared.”

Ashburton District Council communications manager Janice McKay said the "ram-bunctious adventurer,” had been caught and was being looked after by the council team.

She said they were keen to reunite the sheep with its owner.

Let’s just hope that happens quickly before our four-legged friend performs another ewe-dini escape act.
