Dearns’ surprise resignation

Dearns’ surprise resignation

Mid Canterbury Rugby is on the lookout for a new cheif executive following the surprise resignation of Tanya Dearns.

Dearns has announced she will step down at the end of March to take up a new role as the cheif executive of the Wairarapa Bush Rugby Union.

It’s a move motivated by the opportunity to be closer to family, with her departure marking the conclusion of three transformative years with the Mid Canterbury union.

Under Dearns’ leadership, the MCRU has achieved notable milestones, including significant growth in player participation, particularly girls and teenage boys, the launch of the inaugural senior women’s competition, and the commencement of a facilities project to establish a new home for rugby in the region.

“I leave with cherished memories and immense pride in what we’ve accomplished,’’ she said.

“Mid Canterbury rugby will always hold a special place in my heart, and I’ll be cheering for its continued success
