Dance like everyone's watching

Dance like everyone's watching

An Ashburton rugby fan literally “brought home the money” with his dance moves following this year’s Black Clash cricket match.

It was nine year old Will Summerfield’s second time attending a Black Clash match, and mum Anna said he was determined to get on TV.

“At the last Black Clash, he got filmed and on the big screen, but didn’t make it on TV.”

This year, sponsors The Hits radio ran a dance competition, getting cameramen to spot audience members with some rhythm amidst the game’s downtime.

Will was groovy enough to be spotted and bought out into the pitch for a dance-off against four other contestants.

“I was a bit surprised, I was nervous when I was doing it,” he said.

“Because they had the big crowd cheer for who they wanted [to win].”

He had a 20 second window to show his skills to the sold out crowd at Hagley Oval and win the popular vote.

And win he did, banking a $250 cheque courtesy of The Hits radio, and bragging rights.

Will said he solidified his win by doing the ‘worm.’

“I practiced a bit, but not too much.”

The clip of Will sharing was posted to The Hits official Facebook page, which Anna said was circulated through the family group chat.

Will was very humble when asked if any of his friends knew of his new found stardom.

“We’ll find out when we go to school.”

More of a rugby boy than a cricketer, Will was there to support the likes of Will Jordan and Kieran Reid, the latter of who signed Will’s cheque.

Despite having West Indies all-rounder Chris “The Universe Boss" Gayle on their side, Team Rugby lost to Team Cricket by five rounds.
