Checkers beat Team Donkey

Checkers beat Team Donkey

Fewer games are in store for NBS’s Men’s League basketballers following a team pulling out of the competition.

Wednesday’s competitors all came in swinging, some harder than others, like the Checkers with their 39-point win over Team Donkey.

Last season’s champions continued to assert their dominance, led by an explosive performance from Pip Johnston.

He recorded a massive triple-double with 21 points, including six three-pointers, 20 rebounds, and 11 assists.

Liam Elliot contributed a team-high 26 points and Kamal Larry added 18 points and 11 rebounds.

The Checkers were strong at both ends of the court, preventing 12 three-pointers, grabbing 42 defensive rebounds and recording nine steals.

Despite the tough Checkers defence, Team Donkey managed to put up a season-high 68 points, landing an impressive 13 three-pointers.

John Neil Pantaleon led the scoring with 15 points, all from beyond the arc, while Brad Van-Der-Eik contributed 11 points and 14 rebounds in a gritty performance.

The Checkers delivered a commanding 107 – 68 win over Team Donkey in the opening game of the night.

In game two, the Nomads took the crown with a score of 87 - 64 against the Eagles.

They beat the second-placed Eagles after an even start, Eagles winning 21 - 20 by quarter time.

But the momentum shifted in the second quarter as the Nomads went on a scoring run to lead 48 – 37 at halftime - a lead they would never surrender.

Riley Sa was unstoppable, leading all scorers on the night with a dominant 40-point outing alongside 11 rebounds, four assists, and four steals.

He was lethal from beyond the arc, hitting five of seven three-point attempts.

James Cochrane orchestrated the offense brilliantly, finishing with 11 points and 7 assists, many of which set up Sa on the perimeter and in transition.

Nick Fechney had a well-rounded game as well, contributing 12 points, nine rebounds, four assists and five steals.

For the Eagles, Emi Guerra once again led the charge with 24 points and eight rebounds, while Marc Juntilla added 18 points in a tough outing for the team.

Next week the Nomads will verse Team Donkey, and The Knights and Checkers will battle it out.
