Baking for good
A local court deputy registrar has been baking up a storm for a good cause.
When Fiona Flanagan saw an advert pop up on social media for the Starship Big Bake Off, the avid baker decided it was good way to put her skills in the kitchen to work for a good cause.
The fundraiser for the world-class children's hospital runs through the month of June, but Flanagan jumped in early to make the most of the court days this week and spent the weekend baking.
She worked her way through 3kgs of flour, 2kgs of butter, 10 cups of sugar, 18 eggs, three tins of condensed milk, two packs of chocolate chips and more.
Along with one blister from all the mixing, she made chocolate chip and hokie pokie biscuits, ginger loaves, chocolate cake, caramel slices, walnut slices, apple shortcake and her signature raspberry brownies.
She's raised $751 so far, with $676 donated online and a further $75 in cash.
Flanagan has with another bake off planned for the next court sitting day at the Ashburton District Court. Donations can be made at https://starshipbigbakeoff.org.nz/fiona-flanagan if you'd like to support her cause.
