AYC looking for more new members

The friendly bunch from the Ashburton Youth Council hit the streets yesterday to connect with their community. Back row (from left): Co-chair Tom Collis, Michael Baker, secretary Malakai Swindley. Front row: Wilson Hii, Chrizia Cayanan, Jessica Timmo, Artem Kravchenko and William Hii.

Wafting music and the smell of freshly cooked sausages heralded  the arrival of the Ashburton Youth Council on East Street yesterday.

The group’s mid-year recruitment day was held in high spirits on the chessboard.

Communications officer Jessica Timmo said 10 people are currently in the group, and they were hoping to attract a few more members.

The group’s 2018 goals are to strengthen the link between youth, the community and the district council, to encourage youth participation in the community and highlight youth issues to the Ashburton District Council and external stakeholders.

Members meet monthly and have previously helped organise events like Bite Nite, and a District Council vs Youth Council debate.
