Arrests over offensive weapons

Two men were arrested in Ashburton for carrying offensive weapons on Tuesday night.
Ashburton police stopped a vehicle at the intersection of Walnut Avenue and East Street at around 10pm, after officers noticed the occupants acting suspiciously.
A 28-year-old man and a 34-year-old man were subsequently arrested after being found with the weapons.
Both men were due to appear in the Christchurch District Court on Wednesday following their arrest.
They pair face charges including possessing an offensive weapon and unlawfully carrying an offensive weapon.
Senior Sergeant Leigh Jenkins called the arrests “a good result”.
“I would like to thank members of the public for supporting local police by providing quality and timely information,” he said.
“Police are entering into dialogue with the parties involved, making arrests and putting offenders before the court wherever necessary.”
