Methven ploughers looking for straight furrows

Methven ploughers looking for straight furrows

Methven ploughers will show off their skills this weekend.
They will line up for a ploughing match from 10.30am on Saturday at Ross and Adrienne Richards’ property on Darts Road in Methven.
The match includes conventional, reversible, vintage and horse ploughing classes.
Competitors will plough from 10.30am to 11am and again from 11.30am to 2.30pm.
They will then load up and have prize giving at about 4pm.
Match organiser Sandy Redmond said the rule for vintage tractors had changed.
Vintage used to have to be pre-1956, now the new rule is they can be pre-1970.
“The match is weather dependent.
"If it is pouring with rain or there is snow we will postpone the match and put the postponement on Facebook,” she said.
Spectators are welcome and there is no entry fee.
Judging is done from each end of the ploughing.
Judges look for straightness, clearly defined and uniform furrows, weed control, and the seed bed.
Ploughing entries can be emailed to [email protected].
