Baby pink tractor draws the crowds

A blushing baby pink tractor might seem a bit of an anomaly, but that’s exactly what was on display, courtesy of Quigley Contracting Limited, at last weekend’s Ashburton A&P Show.
The tractor took pride of place at Quigley’s agricultural display, and offered many great photographic opportunities to the public.
Having a picture taken in front of an unusual bright pink Massey Ferguson was a drawcard. And why wouldn’t it be – how many pink tractors are there out there?
The idea behind the tractor was to raise awareness for the Breast Cancer Foundation New Zealand.
“We got the tractor wrapped (in pink) last year, the colours of Breast Cancer Foundation NZ and it was an initiative we really wanted to take part in,” Blake Crooks of Quigley’s said.
“The tractor is out working in the paddocks weekdays, but during the weekend we clean it off and bring it along to showcase Breast Cancer Foundation NZ.
“It’s just a gold coin donation that we are after and yes, people have been donating during the show.
“I’ve not sure how much money we have raised, but it is in the thousands,” Crooks said.
“We did a barbecue at Mitre 10 the other week and raised quite a bit of money there.
“The initiative doesn’t have a time limit to it – we will just keep running it at this stage.”
It’s a small Massey Ferguson that we keep using throughout the week, Crooks said.
“How long has the initiative being going on for – about 12 months,” Crooks said.
“We take it around the shows but usually it’s out working, but kids are keen to come up and take a photo of it,” he said.
Quigley Contracting Limited has been going for about 20 years. Silage cultivation, feed sales etc. are on the cards.
“We are reasonably busy at the moment with plenty of silage happening,” Crooks said.
