Firefighters were called out to a large vegetation fire in Wakanui just after 1.30pm. A Fire and Emergency New Zealand spokesperson said there were two fire trucks, a rural fire truck and three tankers battling a fire in a shelterbelt and surrounding paddock.

Fenz is reporting units from Ashburton, Pendarves and Willowby are all in attendance.
