A Methven man who uses a spreadsheet to keep track of his alcohol consumption was convicted of drink driving when he appeared in the Ashburton District Court this week.
Paddy Frederick Helmore, 70, an architect, had admitted driving with 679mcg on Methven highway on June 14. It was his third drink driving conviction.
Judge Allan Roberts said Helmore had been given a final warning at his last appearance in 2002 that he would go to jail if he was caught again.
But defence counsel Paul Bradford said Helmore had gone to extreme lengths since then to ameliorate his alcohol intake . . .
